Community Renewal Day Proclamation 22-02
WHEREAS, the residents, businesses, community organizations, City Council and Staff of John Day, Oregon recognize the special importance of investments into our community to the economic future and quality of life in Grant County; and
WHEREAS, the over $5,000,000 (five million dollars) in investments in the Kam Wah Chung State Heritage Site and the surrounding area by the State of Oregon, the Oregon State of Parks and Recreation Department, and the tireless efforts of volunteers and the Friends of Kam Wah Chung, are recognized for their critical contributions to the community and culture of John Day; and
WHEREAS, the co-investments made in John Day by the City and its partners including the Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative and the over $10,000,000 (ten million dollars) made available to Grant County Digital by the Economic Development Administration and local contributions, will provide power and fiber connectivity for generations to come; and
WHEREAS, the precious nature of water, particularly the special place the John Day River holds for the Blue Mountains ecoregion and the ranchers, farmers, businesses, and residents that make productive use of it is understood; and
WHEREAS, while other regions in the state and across the country are uncertain about their access to water, the John Day Water Reclamation Center will provide water security for those groups, the environment, and generations of residents to come; and
WHEREAS, the efforts of community organizations, including John Day – Canyon City Parks and Recreation and the Grant County Library are recognized for their massive contributions to the quality of life of residents and families in our community; and
WHEREAS the individual contributions to our collective quality of life by community-oriented residents and families, and on this day, particularly the Hill Family as represented by Celeste and Colleen Hill for their sale of the Hill Family Park to the City of John Day for the enjoyment of residents, are recognized for their generosity and importance; and
WHEREAS, the sum total of these contributions to our community are tallied and recognized
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ron Lundbom, Mayor of the City of John Day, do hereby proclaim June 10th, 2022, as
COMMUNITY RENEWAL DAY, Dedicated to the Hill Family of John Day, Oregon
